Overview
Paradise, California continues to recover from the devastation of the 2018 Camp Fire, one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. Nearly 90% of its mobile home parks were destroyed, and the population declined significantly. Today, the town is making measurable progress in infrastructure, housing, healthcare, and community planning.
Current Progress
According to the Paradise Perspectives update (May 15, 2025), the town is experiencing a steady recovery across multiple sectors:
- Rebuilt and repaired infrastructure (roads, utilities)
- Ongoing residential construction
- Increased healthcare access
- Population returning gradually
- Community engagement through education and rebuilding programs
Volunteer Construction Training
To meet the demand for housing and infrastructure, Paradise has implemented a volunteer education initiative. This program provides training in building and development skills, enabling residents and supporters to contribute to recovery projects throughout the town.
Healthcare Development
Improving healthcare access is a central part of Paradise’s recovery strategy. Current efforts include:
- Expansion of primary care clinic networks
- Construction of a Specialty Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center
- Extended Rapid Care hours for urgent needs
In 2025, the Skyway Clinic's $2.4 million expansion was completed to increase service capacity. Additionally, the town has partnered with Korn Ferry, a national physician recruitment firm, and is collaborating with the UC Davis School of Medicine to attract and train doctors. Incentive models, such as tuition coverage in exchange for local service, are under consideration to address long-term provider shortages.
Looking Ahead
Paradise is undergoing a long-term transformation focused on safety, resilience, and access to essential services. While recovery remains ongoing, coordinated efforts across housing, healthcare, and civic engagement continue to support the town’s redevelopment.
